Feel Historic Ambiance In Hog Penny Restaurant
The Hog Penny Restaurant & Pub has been open on Burnaby Hill in the City of Hamilton since 1957. It is the oldest licensed establishment in Bermuda. While the decor and feel of the pub is strictly English it is a favourite place amongst locals. I once went to a bridal shower which ended with a bar hop and Hog Penny was one of the stops. It is quite small and can get crowded quite fast, where trying to get a beer is next to impossible.
With its strategic location many tourists can be found frequenting the pub. Here you can find draft beer, bottled beer and Bermuda Drinks such as Dark n Stormy, Bermuda Rum Swizzle and Long Island Iced Teas. There is also great pub food including traditonal English Fish and Chips, Steak & Kidney Pie, Yorkshire Pudding, burgers, juicy steaks, and last but not least the infamous Banana Flambé dessert. This dessert is made table side which is a nice treat for patrons. While the inside may seem a bit dark and drab with its brick walls and wooden floor, the place certainly knows how to have fun with regularly scheduled live local entertainment during the peak season.
It is a moderately priced restaurant where a typical lunch can cost about $15.00 per dish and dinner entrees about $35. As with most restaurants on the island an additional 15% gratuities will be added to your bill for your convenience. So when you’re tired from all the shopping on Front Street you can head up Burnaby Hill for a great meal and cool drink. At night is when the pub action really unfolds. It has a vibrant nightlife of its own. If you like beer than this is the place you would want to be Sundays and Thursdays during peak season.
