Paw Paw Casserole Is A Family Favourite
Paw Paw Casserole is one of the more popular ways to enjoy Bermuda paw paws. This dinner idea is great for large families or get togethers. While this is a popular dish here in the island it solely is depended on the years harvest for locally grown paw paws. Many local residents have paw paw trees growing right in their back yards! If not then you can always purchase from local farmer markets or grocery stores, when in season.
Skin, and dice paw paws. Cook until tender- a consistency that is easy to mash. Mash paw paws. Layer bottom of baking dish with a thin layer of mashed paw paws and thinly sliced Bermuda tomatos. Saute ground beef and finely chopped onion in a bit of olive oil. Put a layer of this beef mixture on top of the layer of paw paw in casserole dish. Sprinkle cheese. Alternate these layers with paw paw at the top of which you can add the remainder of the grated cheese. Bake in oven for about 45 mins.
Boiled Paw Paw
Peel off skin, cut in quarters, boil in salted water until soft, serve hot with melted butter or cheese sauce.
Baked Bermuda Paw Paw
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Peel skin off of 5 green paw paws. Scoop out seeds and cut into sections. Boil until tender. Drain well and slice. Place the sliced paw paw in layers on a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the layers with grated cheese. Pour one and a half cups of cream sauce. Sprinkle the remainder cheese on top and bake in oven until golden brown on top.
